FAQ

Do you have questions about The Adventures of Stanley “Frankfurter” Jones? Do you find that you are frequently asking them? If so, this page should be right up your alley.

This page is mostly for general questions related to the development of the Stanley “Frankfurter” Jones games. For technical questions about the games themselves, please see the troubleshooting section of the downloads/resources page.

What the actual fuck is this?

The Adventures of Stanley “Frankfurter” Jones was created in 2012 when I was playing around with the AGS engine. It was originally a joke project created to experiment with the engine, but eventually it became an actual game with characters, puzzles and something resembling a plot. The original game was released to mild fanfare on the AGS website, and received a rating of 2/5 cups from the AGS review panel. Beyond that, it was basically ignored. However, the feedback I received from people who did play it was generally positive, and I had fun making it, so I decided to make a sequel.

Frank Further: The Further Adventures of Stanley “Frankfurter” Jones was completed in late 2015 and released to even milder fanfare on the AGS website. It has yet to be rated by the AGS panel. However, I once again received mostly positive feedback from people who took the time to play it. The sequel was planned as a much longer story, so it was broken into smaller chunks; Frank Further is technically the first chapter of the Further Adventures of Stanley “Frankfurter” Jones.

Work on the third installment in the series (or the second chapter of the second installment) began in 2016. It was worked on intermittently up until mid 2018, at which point I decided to take a temporary hiatus to focus on other things. After that, well… time makes fools of us all.

As of mid 2025, the project is once again being actively worked on. Ideally, I hope to have a playable second chapter available by the end of 2026.

Seriously, what is a point and click adventure game?

A point and click adventure is a style of game that was popular in the late 80s and early 90s. Gameplay generally focuses on solving puzzles and advancing a story, as opposed to more action-oriented games that focus on skill or strategy. At one time adventure titles claimed a respectable share of the gaming market, with games like King’s Quest, Gabriel Knight, and Full Throttle becoming top sellers. Around the Y2k era, consoles began to eat into the PC gaming market and adventure games were no longer profitable to develop. The genre has seen a resurgence in recent years with the rise of small-time developers and indie platforms.

Wait, is this one of those boring “le deep story” indie art school games that only appeal to fudge-packing hipsters and “journalists”?

No. I assure you it is quite the opposite of that. Anita Sarkeesian would hate everything about this game.

Is Stanley “Frankfurter” Jones appropriate for my children to play?

You don’t have any children. But no, it is not.

The world has changed a lot since the 2010s. Do you have plans to tone down the blatant racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, fatphobia, and general vulgarity, and make the Stanley “Frankfurter” Jones series more inclusive and welcoming in future titles?

No.
